Really appreciate the great photos. Living overseas it gives me an opportunity to recognise players when watching the games on cable. Don't trust the commentators. Thanks Molly, and I'm with you, I think we could be in for something special this year.

Thanks Molly - guys look in great nick. It was fantstic watching the young guys in Perth and I thought they acquitted themselves really well.Looking forward to the rest of the NAB Challenge series and seeing who can force their way into the round 1 team.

Great description of his worth and great that you mentioned Bateman, as I think your right on how they complement each other. I also think that Burgoyne will be important in this equation.

Thanks again for the photos Molly - after such a dreadful weekend it was certainly good to have that very small ray of 'Young' light. I must confess I am feeling very down about Hawkies prospects this year - their performance in the NAB pre-season has been disappointing and the injuries are just down right depressing. However, I will have my game face on for round one - so bring it on!

Clinton Young is much more important to the Hawks side than is given credit for, especially from opposition supporters. Like Bateman, his hard running is so important to breaking lines, but his left boot is an added weapon. He'll run eighty metres to get into space, carry the ball twenty and kick it sixty.

Great comments Spikers! Just noticed the run in of Buddy and hoping to catch it at training on Wednesday or Friday at the game.

Your comment about them being a bit rusty was well made. Sure that will improve as they get more game and as the silkier players come back.

It is really hard to assess the first hit-out with the tigers obviously lacking skills and structure (will come under Hardwick - just takes a lot of time). Agree about Shiels - isn't he one hard nut for a kid so young. Lloyd mentioned Buddy's straighter approach - tbh i couldn't see any difference as most of the goal shots were within 50 and fairly straight - but these things are hard to catch on tv - so i will go with Lloyd - regardless Buddy kicking goals is something we need. Roughy in the ruck - well it worked for lots of other teams last year - still not convinced we can lose him as a forward - Dowler (or whoever) will REALLY need to step-up. Thought hawks skills were rusty (as expected) with a lot of missed targets in both kicking and handball so this should improve against WBD. Hoping Bateman gets a run this week - i really enjoy watching him play. Overall a strong pass on the effort - after all you can only beat who you play and the Hawks did that convincingly.

Pete didn’t see a lot of “The Factor” (as I like to call him) running. He looks okay to me but I think it won’t be until its time for him to start taking some hits that we will know if he will be able to return.
